To run a Minecraft server, you need to download its zip file from Minecraft's official website. It contains both Windows and Ubuntu server files. It can be unzipped using your default file explorer, or you can use WinZip and WinRar software.
Note: As of March 2022, the Bedrock server software is still in its Alpha stage. There are likely to be some bugs before the final release. Run the Minecraft Bedrock Server
You don't need to install the Minecraft server before hosting it, unlike a Java server. So, once you have unzipped the server files, let's get started. Ubuntu
Each Linux OS comes with its own "terminal" app for running custom commands. Just make sure that your system is running at least Ubuntu 18 or equivalent. To launch the server, run the following command. LD_LIBRARY_PATH=. ./bedrock_server. If the command fails, replace the "bedrock_server” part with the unzipped folder name and run it again. After running the command successfully, you can jump on to the server and get started playing.
Windows
You can make a Minecraft Bedrock Server on Windows by following these steps: First, we need to exempt Minecraft from UWP loopback restrictions. It prevents the UWP apps (like Minecraft Bedrock) from connecting to the local server. To do this, you can open the command prompt and become an administrator by right-clicking the icon in the start menu or selecting the option from the sub-menu.
2. Then, within the command prompt, paste the following command and hit enter. CheckNetIsolation.exe LoopbackExempt -a -p=S-1-15-2-1958404141-86561845-1752920682-3514627264-368642714-62675701-733520436 You can close the command prompt after executing the command.
3. Next, double click on the unzipped folder and right-click to open the "bedrock_server.exe".
4. As soon as you open the server file, Windows will launch its firewall. Here, make sure that both the "private" and "public" networks options are selected. Click on the "allow Access" button.
5. Once the Firewall accepts the exception, the server can start running in the command prompt.
Open System Port
Now that both your OS and firewall are ready to invite other Minecraft players, it's time to get the router ready. Yes, we will go into more technical details than in the previous part. However, these easy-to understand steps will help you get your Minecraft Bedrock servers up and running. Find Server IP Addresses & IPv6 addresses
Before we move on, we must first find out details about the platform that hosts the Minecraft Bedrock Server. To do this, open Command Prompt once again and execute the following command in it:
ipconfig /all
It will display your IPv4 or IPv6 address at the prompt. You can either leave it open or copy both to save for later. You can also note the default gateway address for routers that use IPv6 instead. System Port Settings
A system port is an entry point through which players from other networks can connect to and join your online servers. To make it available to other players, we need to modify the system port settings of your router.
Unfortunately, each router manufacturer has its unique UI and settings dashboard. We can't address them all, so please visit SetupRouter.com. There you will find the steps to open your Port Forwarding settings. Enter Server Details
Finally, once you have reached the system ports settings of your router, look for and click "add service"/"create new" or a similar button. Then, the router will require you to enter the following information:
- Server/Service/Port No: Minecraft Server – Start port: 19132 – End port: 19132
- Service Type: UDP/TCP
Minecraft Bedrock's default port ID is "19132". If there are other columns named "port", enter the same ID. Moreover, the router might also require you to enter an IP Address, IPv6 Address, or default gateway address. Your IP address is the same IPv4 address you previously noted via the command prompt along with the other addresses. Invite friends: Find your Public IP Address
You only need the public IP address of the host to join any dedicated Minecraft Bedrock server. Fortunately, because of port forwarding, the public IP address won't reveal any of your private information. The same information can be found by opening Google and searching "what is my IP"
Your public IP address is displayed in the search results. You need to copy it and share it with your friends that want to join the server. As you'll see, you need the same for your Minecraft Bedrock server. How to Join the Minecraft Bedrock Service
Now that your server is up and running, it's the time to test it. The steps below are the same for you and your friends that want to join the server. getspout So, open your Minecraft Bedrock, and let's get started. 1. From the homepage, click on the "Play" button.
2. Then click on the servers section from the top column to load all the active servers.
3. Within the servers section, scroll down to the bottom of the server list and click on the "add server" button.
4. Finally, you need to enter the details of your server to join it. The name of the server can be anything you want. As for the port, unless you changed it in server properties, it is 19132. The server address is the exact same as your public Internet Protocol address.
Customize Your Minecraft Bedrock Server
Now that your server is up and running, it's time to customize it. A server defaults to loading a vanilla survival world, which is great for enjoying the best Minecraft seeds. However, this is not enough to make your server a hit. Let's look at the customization options available to server properties. Server Properties
The simplest way to customize a web server is to change its world properties. To do this, you can open the file "server.properties" in notepad. It is located within the unzipped folder, from which you run the world.
Within properties, you can edit the following features of your world: Game mode (Survival, Creative, or Adventure) & related settings
Cheats and difficulty
Maximum number of participants and conditions of joining
Server settings
World properties
Players' abilities
Resource Packs, Worlds
Change the appearance of a server is one way to make it stand out. To do this, download and install one of our best texture or resource pack by placing it into the "resource package" folder.
You can also use custom Minecraft map by placing them into the "worlds” folder. This will give you pre-built worlds you can share with your friends. Server Commands
In Minecraft, commands work like cheats in other games. These commands give you almost developer-like powers to modify everything in your world without ever leaving the game. These commands can be used to modify server properties. We have a dedicated guide for Minecraft Bedrock commands that you can refer to for making the most out of this feature. Close Your Minecraft Bedrock server
After they're done playing, you can close the game and leave your friends behind. But this won't save the progress. Instead, you have to open the command prompt window in which your server is running. Next, enter "stop" in the prompt window and hit Enter.
The server will close immediately and save all your progress and changes to its world. You have to do this each time you want to close your server and save the progress. Frequently Asked Question (FAQ)
